A Brief History of the Texas Tourist Camp Complex:

1927: The site began with a wooden shed, gas station, and an invitation to overnight visitors to build campfires during their stay.

1929: A simple one-room building was constructed and named “The Texas Lunchroom.”

1931-1935: Wooden cabins and garages were added. The lunchroom was renamed “The Texas Cafe,” and a second floor with living quarters was added. The buildings were faced with rock and petrified wood.

During its peak, it was a popular spot for both locals and travelers.

1960s: The cafe closed due to changes in the town’s infrastructure that diverted traffic.

1988: The Lodgings closed.

1993: The cafe reopened for business.
