Habit Trackers | An Easy & Effective Way to Achieve Goals

What is a Habit Tracker?

A habit tracker is a simple (and fun) way to measure and see how well you stick to a habit. These are especially helpful in developing new habits. They can be a checklist, calendar, or a simple grid. The idea is to mark the days you complete the habit and see progress toward your goals.

Develop Positive Changes This Year with Rewards

Habit trackers can be just the motivation needed to form a new habit or keep a former one going. Being able to visually see your progress and commitment with those oh-so-satisfying checkmarks can really step up your healthy habits game. These easy-to-implement, easy-to-use tools are great for teachers and students alike. And if the checkmarks aren’t enough, build in a reward for goals reached.

Habit Trackers for Students:

There are many ways you can use habit trackers in your homeschool or classroom. Here are some ideas, although the possibilities are endless:

  • Daily Reading 
  • Exercise
  • Outdoor Time
  • Good Behavior or Problem-Solving
  • Healthy Eating (Servings of Fruit or Veggies)
  • Hydration
  • Turning in Assignments/Homework
  • Random Acts of Kindness/Helping Others
  • Healthy Sleep Habits
  • Reduce Screen Time Goals

Tips for Using Habit Trackers:

  • Progress is more important than perfection. Even if you miss a day or two (or even ten), don’t let that derail you. You are far better off doing some than none. 
  • Break big goals into smaller chunks to make them feel more attainable. Many students will feel overwhelmed by a yearly goal, but a weekly one? No problem.
  • Treat yourself when you reach your goals, and offer rewards to students. It doesn’t have to be anything big or expensive – simple things like a visit to a prize box, writing a note of congratulations, or watching a movie with some popcorn can be enough to keep the motivation going and feel good about the progress made. 
  • Doodles and checkmarks are great, but stickers can make habit tracking more fun (especially for younger kids.)
