Why Should You Visit Blue Bell Creameries?

Let’s be honest, you visit for the homemade vanilla, or cookies and cream, or maybe butter pecan? This field trip is also great for learning about the history of the Blue Bell Creameries and seeing the manufacturing facility. Blue Bell was born in Texas and is a Texas staple that most people say is undoubtedly the best.

FUN FACT: Blue Bell is named after a wildflower that can be found growing in Texas.

Where to Begin Your Field Trip:

Begin at the Visitor Center near the vintage ice cream truck. Inside are the information desk and a small museum.

What Can You Expect to See & Do at Blue Bell Creameries?

Visitor Center

At the Visitor Center you will learn how Blue Bell got its start, first by making butter, and then as a tiny operation selling ice cream to the locals with a horse and wagon. Then, follow the timeline along the wall to see how the company has grown to its present-day operations. There are photo ops and paper hats to have some fun with, as well.

Next, head to the Blue Bell Creameries building, housing the Baseball Museum, Observation Deck, Ice Cream Parlor, and Country Store.

Baseball Museum

On the first floor, you’ll find a baseball museum, full of local Texas baseball memorabilia. Peruse, and then make your way upstairs to the ice cream parlor and observation deck.

Observation Deck

The observation deck offers a bird’s eye view of the manufacturing facilities where you can see ice cream being made in real-time. Kids will enjoy watching the magic happen, and may get to see some of those famous cookie pieces or sprinkles being added to the mix.

Ice Cream Parlor

Of course, your field trip wouldn’t be complete without a stop at the ice cream counter. Step up and order your favorite, or try something new! Sometimes they are featuring flavors you can’t find at your local store. The $1 “scoop” is more like an overstuffed bowl. You won’t be disappointed. Flavors rotate, but you should have about 16 options to choose from. Enjoy your ice cream in the parlor, full of nostalgic charm and equipped with a hand-washing station for sticky post-ice cream kid hands.

Country Store

As you’ve probably guessed, souvenirs can be purchased at the Country Store. The gift shop is chocked full of t shirts and aprons, retro dishes, cookbooks, toys, and many, many more items.

Before you leave, don’t forget to take a short stroll around the courtyard and see the iconic dairy cow and farm girl featured on every carton of Blue Bell ice cream.
