Why Visit the Bosque Museum?
County museums usually feature a curated collection of culture and artifacts to preserve the history and character of the immediate area. While they are usually worth a visit, you always get the impression that the exhibits are more meaningful (and rightly so) to the locals. This one, however, packs a big punch. The history uncovered here goes back, way back, to prehistoric Paleoamerican man. And it’s fascinating.

What Can You Expect to See & Do at the Bosque Museum?
We think the absolute highlight of this museum is the Paleoamerican Horn Shelter excavation exhibit (more on that below.) However, the museum offers much more, including their unique Scandinavian history and culture.
The Early 1900s Collection that Started it All
See the Jacob Olsen collection that became the beginning of the Bosque County Museum, including the log cabin located outside, near the entrance of the museum.
Norwegian Collection
Bosque county was once home to a large community of Scandinavian immigrants, and the museum has been recognized for its large collection of Norwegian artifacts.
Texas Pioneer Collections
These exhibits include furniture and textiles, as well as medical equipment and school materials from the earliest settlements in Bosque County.
Natural & Geological History
Another room is dedicated to the natural history of the area. Look though fossils and view a model of the geologic record. Learn about the animals living in the area.
Local Art
View a small, but impressive collection of Bosque art created by local artists.
Paleoamerican Discovery at the Horn Shelter Site
This exhibit is a reconstruction of the excavation at the Horn Shelter site. The skeletons found at this location were dated to the prehistoric Paleoamerican time period (11,700 years ago.) A double burial (man and girl) were unearthed here, the only one found of this time period in north America.
Interactive components are used to teach visitors about this remarkable discovery.
