Make the First Day Back to School Extra Special with a Mystery Box

Plan a Mystery Themed Back-to-School Day

Going back to school doesn’t need to be a drag. Get students excited for the new year by adding a little mystery to their day.

Mystery Box (or Bag)

Begin with a mystery box. All you need is a box and a label. You can also substitute the box for a paper bag. This option is ideal if you want to hand them out to kids individually.

There are many ways to use these. Start the day by opening the box to fun new school supplies or finish the day by opening the box to an after-school treat. Save it for the end of the week to build intrigue, or maybe it only “unlocks” when you solve a series of clues or puzzles. Here are a few ideas of what to put in the mystery box.

  • Fun or Unique School Supplies
  • Snacks/Candy
  • Movie & Popcorn
  • A New Game or Cards
  • Mystery/Detective Themed Items (Invisible Ink Pens, Mini Notepads, Magnifying Glasses, Flashlights, Sunglasses)
  • Toys (Fidget Toys, Slime, Building Kits, Plushies)
  • Art Supplies or Craft Kits
  • Water Bottle
  • Stickers
  • A Smaller Mystery Box (If you are brave and want to keep the fun going a little longer.)
