7 Texas Art Museums that will Inspire Kids to get Creative from Home

Sometimes you can’t go on a field trip; the field trip must come to you. These Texas art museums have a variety of projects and ideas to get the kids started on their own galleries.

Miniature Minimalist Furniture Activity from the McNay Art Museum

Nasher Sculpture Cener has a fun collection of activities you’ll want to check out on their Learn at Home page; online scavenger hunts, at-home family activities, even art lessons you can do outdoors.

The Dallas Museum of Art has an aptly named Petite Picassos Pinterest board. The projects here are easy to follow and informative, and best of all, are inspired by a work of art in the museum.

The Amarillo Museum of Art has loaded their AMoA at Home page with art-based brain fuel. You’ll find puzzles and activities you can do alone or as a family

Get crafty with the Meadows Museum every Wednesday. Join the fun on Facebook where they will be posting their Crafternoon videos weekly at noon.

Thursdays are storytime at the San Antonio Museum of Art. Each week one of the museum educators will select a story to read inspired by artwork in the museum, then present an art project kids can complete at home. You can follow SAMA on Facebook or find past storytimes on their SAMA Anywhere page.

The Art Museum of South Texas has an awesome Facebook group called Young @ Art. The group is very active and seems to have consistently great content being shared. It is also set to public, so you can view the videos and projects without joining the group.

The McNay Art Museum in New Braunfels has a small collection of art projects on their McNay from Home Activities page, and small collection on their Arts & Crafts at Home Pinterest board that is worth checking out.

Bonus Arts Resource: Art Room, a Forth Worth, TX based non-profit has provided a downloadable Art Room Activity Book for keeping young artists inspired while they’re at home.
