What Can You Expect to See & Do at the CR Smith Museum?
The Theatre
The theatre shows a short (less than 15 minutes) film every half hour about American Airlines and the people who work there. Kids will probably like the special seating in this theatre. They will be watching from an airline passenger seat and can fasten their seatbelts for the show.
The Aircraft
Step onboard a DC-3 called the “Flagship Knoxville” to see what 1940s air travel was like. Then, head to the MD-80 cockpit where you can climb into the captain’s chair and hear from one of the pilots who flew it.
Airline History Exhibits
It’s pretty fascinating to see how much has changed since people began flying. Browse cases of artifacts to get a glimpse into the past of the world’s largest airline.
Airline Industry Jobs and People
View video kiosks of American Airlines employees explaining their responsibilities in different departments. Check out the display cases, as well as the exhibit next to the engine explaining all the behind the scenes maintenance and safety protocols.
Baggage Loader Game
Play the baggage loader game. You will scan the luggage and follow instructions on how to load it properly. See if you can get your flight ready for departure on time.
Airline Command Center
The Airline Command Center is another interactive exhibit. You are presented with scenarios and have to make decisions on how to proceed.
Evacuation Slide
Stop by the cleverly themed play area, equipped with an emergency evacuation slide. Hopefully, this will be your only chance to ever go down an evac slide 😉
Gift Shop
Before you leave, you can shop for a souvenir, or find some unique items for your favorite airplane enthusiasts.
