What Can You Expect to See and Do at the Galveston Railroad Museum?
Walk Through Historic Trains
Step inside a rail postal car, a mid-century sleeper car, and a Pullman sleeper car to experience travel from another era. Explore towering steam locomotives and experience the sheer size and power of these “giant iron horses.”
Harborside Express Caboose Ride
Enjoy a short train ride abord a real little red caboose.
Garden of Steam
Among the gazebo, see a 1911 Case steam tractor and a Pacific mini train in this breezy outdoor area. Or grab a bite to eat at the snack bar.
Indoor Exhibits
Discover the history and culture of rail travel through engaging indoor exhibits, including a timeline of Texas railroading from 1830–1980, an elegant display of railroad china and silver that highlights dining in style, and a tribute to Pullman Porters honoring their important contributions to the railroad and American society.
Explore the Restored 1932 Depot
Once the headquarters of the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe Railroad, the 10,000-square-foot marble depot still features the original ticket booth. Life-sized statues make it easy to imagine a bustling train station full of travelers. Listen to recordings of native Galvestonians sharing their memories in the historic phone booths. The south side of the depot, once home to a Harvey House restaurant, now hosts rotating exhibits.
Museum Gift Shop
A thoughtfully curated shop with train toys for kids, memorabilia for railroad fans, and a unique selection of books.
Tips for Visitors:
