Go on a Texas Themed Photo Scavenger Hunt

Go on Scavenger Hunt, Texas-Style!

May 24th is National Scavenger Hunt Day and we have a free Texas Photo Scavenger Hunt challenge ready to go.

Gather the family (or some friends) and set off to explore your favorite Texas towns and natural areas.

Print below, and then give each kid a checklist, or play in teams.

It might be fun to offer a small prize (like a Texas-themed treat) for completing the scavenger hunt.

Quick Tip: Since kids will be on the lookout for various plants and animals, it would be a good time to show them what poison ivy looks like and talk about wildlife safety.

Location Suggestions & Ideas

Libraries and other government buildings are good places to look for state flags, as well as at the entrance to our many Texas state parks.

State parks, city parks, nature centers, hiking trails, and botanical gardens are all great places to look for plants and wildlife.

Think outside the box. You may not see someone walking around with a guitar, but maybe you’ve noticed one on some public art? The more creative, the better!

Scavenger Hunt Show and Tell

Afterward, have some fun showing off photos and finds from the day. You could even give out “best of” awards for each item on the list, or award things like “best find,” “best in creativity,” or “best photography.”
